Who are They

Campions. Ofcourse a new term but not champions or campion flowers. These are the people migrated from Coastral Andra Pradesh(South India) to Central Karnataka(South India) in early of post indipendence of India.

Initially they migrated to Tunga Badra delta later scattered to Bhadra delta and Krishna delta.
As they are settled in delta areas there major work is agriculture. Most of them are farmers and few people also migrated to support them are brahmins, barbers and dhobis(cloth washers).

Castes among the migrated people are Kamma, Reddy,Kapu and Eediga. All these four castes depends on agriculture whereas Brahmins, Nayi bramhins(barbers) and dhobis are depending on purohityam(priests), hair dressing and washing clothes respectively. Kammas are the high populated among all castes.

These people started migrating from 1955 aproximately, that is after Tunga Badra dam is constructed on Tungabadra river. Tungabadra river is a tributary of Krishna river. Later some people again migrated from Tungabadra delta to Badra delta. In 1990s few people from Tungabadra delta and Badra delta moved to Krishna delta that is under Alamatti Dam in Gulbarga district of Karnataka.

People are scattered in Koppal, Raichur and Bellary districts under Tungabadra delta. Shivamogga and Davangere districts under Badra delta. Gulbara district under Krishna delta. All the migrated people are basically belongs to costral area of Andra pradesh mainly belongs to Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts. Few people settled in Bellary district were migrated from Prakasham district of Andra Pradesh.

After they came from Andra pradesh many families started leaving together near by canals and formed small indipendent villages later they called these villages as 'camps' thats how we can find these villages names tagged with 'camp' word like Desai camp and Jalahalli camp.

Basically these people are very friendly and piece loving. They dont interfere in any violances and not participate in any protests unless very necessary. Most of the families are well settled and well educated. There are some illitarators only in the first generation. Now the third generation people started yielding and most of them are educated. There are many families involed in business like rice trading, pesticide, chemical shop keepers, automobile franchise, rice millars, village level cable operators and grocery store keepers.

Politically they are not belong to any single party. Earlier they were supporting congress party when whole nation was simply supporting congress party without second thought. Now the second generation and third generation people involving in all parties irrespective of caste or religion. Many party workers are evolved as village level leaders to supporting parties and participating Gram panchayat, Taluka panchayat, Zilla panchayat and APMC elections and gaining however till today very few were participated as MLAs and no one won yet. They need to grow alot in this regard. Since people are scattered between many parties it is difficult for them to gain MLA seats in near future.

Evanthough there are different castes in the migrated people but they all practise Hindhu. In every village we can find Lord Rama temple. They celebrate Ram Navami very grandly every year. Apart from Ram navami they also celebrate Krishnastami, Ganesh chaturdhi as common village festivals.

Few of the second and third generation people are studied well and settled across the world. As seen in the recent days most of the fourth generation people are interested in studies and wanted to settle in the cities however their parents are not encoraging them for the agriculture. If it is continued then in another two or three generations these camp people will disappear from the above said delta areas.
